DSP Newsletter, May ’18

Over the past month we’ve been focusing on organizing our space at the Woodlawn MIC and with the help of many volunteers we’re beginning the process of archiving our work.  We also recently announced our dedicated office hours for community partners and organizers to schedule a meeting with us.  Our current office hours are Monday/Wednesday/Friday from 10:00am-7:00pm by appointment only. If you want to schedule a meeting please visit our Contact Us Page on the website or request an appointment HERE.

In addition to our organizing efforts we’re busy planning and programming for what is upcoming in June; The Freedom Summer Activist Camp and a workshop series called Liberated Archives: Archives for Black Lives. This year’s Summer Freedom Activist Camp will be held at Marylhurst University June 18th-22nd and June 25th-29th.  Additional event details and registration will be announced soon.

DSP Newsletter, April ’18

April has been full of changes for us. In the aim of promoting our safety and security, we ended our relationship with Facebook. Instead of engaging with us online, we strongly encourage you to interact with other community members in person. We believe that coming together in real life rather than on social media will only serve to strengthen our community. Consistently showing up is the only option for those who are serious about creating change, so we hope that you’ll commit to attending at least one event per month. Regular opportunities to engage with us in person include: Social Justice Saturday, Community Service and Feed-In, Children’s Art & Social Justice Council, Communities of Color Unite, and Soul Food Sunday. In addition to our reoccurring monthly events we will be highlighting upcoming events in this monthly newsletter and the “Events” page of our website.

Since our departure from Facebook our team has been working diligently to update the website and give it a fresh look.  We are excited to share with you these changes and invite you to check it out.  Don’t forget to bookmark Don’t Shoot PDX so you can check back regularly and get the latest updates.
