We are honored to have our founder, Teressa Raiford, be a crucial part of the 58th convention for the National Black Law Students Association. Movement lawyering is a vital tool in community advocacy and we are grateful to be in the room with so many future leaders who have made a commitment to social change. Tickets and conference info is here.
This Sunday, Don’t Shoot Portland has been invited to table during Dr. Ibram X. Kendi’s talk about his new book on March 22! Tickets are available here.
On March 27, we will be hosting our monthly Portland in Black series, with this event focusing on a conversation with two very special women in our community to uplift Womens History Month - Gahlena Avidan and Balinda Golden. Free RSVP is available here.
Hughes Food Forest
Our second season is off to a great start - please reach out if you’d like to join our food justice program in NE Portland! All ages and experiences are welcome - this is meant to be a community-centered opportunity to deepen our understanding of basic gardening and learn the benefits of regengerative agriculture.
Upcoming work party dates are March 22 from 10am-12pm and April 9 from 5:30-7:30pm. We will begin having weekly planting days through the summer, starting later as we get more light.
If you’d like to volunteer or sponsor this program to continue making it possible, please email us at HughesFoodForest@DontShootPDX.org!
At The BLACK Gallery through April 30:
In partnership with Look2Justice, The BLACK Gallery powered by DSPDX is honored to present ‘Window into Solitary’, a photography exhibit that centers first-person testimony on the need to end solitary confinement.
