Center of Injustice

Center of Injustice

The Center of Injustice is a mixed media installation by Don’t Shoot Portland and Media Pollution which presents historic evidence of police violence and political retaliation against local Black activist communities in Portland. The installation bridges past and present, from the KKK’s close ties with the police and city government in the 1920s, to police intimidation and attacks on Black businesses in the 1980s, to individual testimonies and resistance footage from activists today.

Special thanks to City of Portland Archives, Ashlee Albies, Derek Franklin, Meghann Gilligan, Bronson James, Matt Letzelter, Adele Free Pham, Derek Powe, Matthew McHenry and Laura Vanderlyn.

The Center of Injustice is on display as part of the Policing Justice exhibit at Portland Institute of Contemporary Art (PICA) through May 19.
