Brian "Hakiym" Simpson is a father, poet, and Oregon firefighter. In 2024 he was attacked and targeted with racial slurs and acted in self-defense.

Convicted by an all-white jury, today Hakiym is serving nearly 6 years in prison while the other man, who admitted to starting the fight, remains free.
