Summer is at its peak and we have had an incredible and busy time in community with you all! Thank you so much to everyone who has come by The BLACK Gallery to see Inheritors of Movement, as well as those that joined us during Portland Arts Week as we celebrated Art + Sports with our Liberated Archives exhibition at Expensify.

This Saturday, join us for our free monthly series, Portland in Black. Bring in your photos, keepsakes, or any projects you’re working on to receive guidance and support from trained archivists. At a time when history is being challenged and critical thought is increasingly censored, community-led archives matter more than ever. Preserving local stories, movements, and cultural memory ensures future generations can learn from the people and communities who shaped them. This program series is in partnership with the City of Portland Archives. Register via Eventbrite here.

This exhibition, A Womens’ Basketball Fashion Archive, features work by photographer Hypatia Sorunke presented by Don’t Shoot Portlands’ Liberated Archives program. As an arts and education nonprofit using art as a tool for social change, Don’t Shoot Portland provides year-round programming that platform memory work, cultural preservation and community access.
