A New Exhibit with the University of Oregon’s Special Collections and University Archive + Memory Work for Black Lives Plenary on Oct 21 and 22!

Our work with the University of Oregon’s SCUA over the past year has led to another exhibit installation of our Liberated Archives series that will run from October 10, 2022 through March of 2023!

Our collaborative programming kicks off with an online plenary,Memory Work for Black Lives’ on October 21 and 22nd from 10am - 4pm.

Registration is required and free to all.

Both days will be recorded in full and made available on our YouTube page.

In the past, Don’t Shoot Portland have participated on educational panels that focus on documenting the experience and histories of Black people living in America so we are very honored to be joined by presenting panelists Dr. Aisha Johnson, Makiba Foster, Sierra King and Rachel Winston

Please save the date and join us on October 21 and 22nd from 10am to 4pm! To learn more about Black memory work, please check out https://archivingtheblackweb.org and http://www.docnow.io.

Memory Work for Black Lives brings Black activists, community members, librarians, and archivists together to discuss the power of Black archival memory and community-based archives.

Building on the community archiving work that Don’t Shoot Portland has done over the past decade, this online event will demonstrate how to digitally approach archiving historical memories and make demo recordings publicly available, so that anyone can do this work at home.
