Help Don't Shoot Portland Build a Food Forest for A Historic Black Church!

Historically, Northeast Portland was well known as the heart of the city's Black community, but today those families have been forcefully displaced through redlining, with many far removed from where they once called home.

Don’t Shoot Portland seeks to uplift and sustain Hughes Community Church, its congregation and the surrounding neighborhood through implementing a Food Forest as a symbol of common unity! We hope to engage people of all backgrounds and ages through skill sharing, horticultural therapy and supporting access to fresh, healthy produce for an elderly congregation that has been part of Portlands’ history for generations.

This Saturday May 10th we’re hosting our first community outreach event to connect with neighbors and share information about our overall vision for Hughes food forest and liberating access to food in our community! Join us as we center community recipes, heritage and culture from 11am to 1pm at Hughes Community Church (111 NE Failing At Portland, OR 97212).

This community program is hosted in partnership by Don't Shoot Portland, PDX Food Forest and other coalition partners. Contact us to get involved by emailing hughesfoodforest@dontshootpdx.org.

SB 238 affects all of us - please provide testimony by this Friday May 9th!

Give testimony opposing SB 238 by this Friday May 9 at 3pm PST. Don’t Shoot Portland strongly opposes SB 238, which provides a blank check for law enforcement agencies to begin deploying unlimited quantities of drones, without a court warrant, in a wide variety of situations.

As ACLU states, of highest concern is the ability for these bills to allow police and sheriffs - not the courts - to make decisions about the use of these drones. That means law enforcement could use drones to monitor protests, gatherings, or everyday life in our communities with no judicial accountability.

Give testimony and view senate bill details here.

Love Is The Power is up through May 18 💐
